SUWON LEE 

Mukthi Room is a multimedia installation that consists of two parts: a 3 x 3 x 3 mt (10 cubic feet) room is covered on the outside with 76 panels (50 x 70 cm / 20 x 27.5 in each) made of stainless steel and alucobond and digitally carved with phrases. 

The phrases have been collected from several artists such as Claudio Perna, Louise Bourgeois, Yoko Ono, Meyer Vaisman and Gego as well as from mantras and other affirmations that I have taken from my studies in Hinduism and Buddhism which have helped me cope with difficult moments in life. Inside the room is a video installation which shows belongings from my past that I am no longer willing or able to keep and which I have lit on fire to burn into ashes. The deep and long sound of the OM mantra reverberates within the room, enhancing the transformative power of fire and the deep connection between destruction and renewal, death and rebirth.

Mukthi Room es una instalación multimedia que consta de dos partes: una sala de 3 x 3 x 3 m está cubierta en el exterior con 76 paneles (de 50 x 70 cm cada uno) de acero inoxidable y Alucobond y digitalmente tallados con frases.

Las frases han sido tomadas de varios artistas como Claudio Perna, Louise Bourgeois, Yoko Ono, Meyer Vaisman y Gego, así como de mantras y otras afirmaciones que he tomado de mis estudios en hinduismo y budismo que me han ayudado a enfrentar momentos difíciles en la vida. Dentro de la sala hay una video instalación que muestra las pertenencias de mi pasado que ya no estoy dispuesta ni capaz de mantener conmigo y que he prendido en llamas para quemar hasta convertirse en cenizas. El sonido profundo y largo del mantra de OM reverbera dentro de la habitación, realzando el poder transformador del fuego y la conexión profunda entre la destrucción y la renovación, muerte y el renacimiento.
