Body of Light, 2020

Édouard Glissant’s concept of opacity resists full transparency, a notion deeply intertwined with diaspora and identity. In Lee’s work, female embodiment becomes both medium and message, reflecting the fluid evolution of identity. Her nude self-portraits—captured in darkness through long exposures and artificial light—draw inspiration from Marcel Duchamp’s idea of shadows as glimpses of the unknown. Through this interplay of light and opacity, Lee explores the body as a site of transformation and mystery.
