Not relying on the anecdotal or other narrative structures, Suwon Lee’s work allows the viewer to create his or her own meanings. In Ciudad Fantasma (Ghost City) we are given a vision of a city from afar. Lacking specifics and the gritty details of reality, the city remains in the realm of the contingent, something which is possible but fundamentally unknowable. Lee suggests that her work “examines the role of the artist as an interpreter of the world based on organizing principles and a systematic approach to image making.” With this in mind, Lee’s digital photograph that seems to hover between reality and utopia can also be taken as a suggestion of the role of the artist, both aware of the world but suggesting one which is better.

Sin apoyarse en la anécdota u otras estructuras narrativas, la obra de Suwon Lee permite al espectador crear sus propios significados. En Ciudad Fantasma se nos da una visión de una ciudad desde lejos. A falta de especificidades y de los detalles crudos de la realidad, la ciudad permanece en el reino del contingente, algo que es posible pero fundamentalmente inescrutable. Lee sugiere que su trabajo "examina el papel del artista como un intérprete del mundo basado en principios organizativos y un enfoque sistemático a la toma de imágenes". Con esto en mente, la fotografía digital de Lee que parece flotar entre la realidad y la utopía también puede ser tomada como una sugerencia del rol del artista, quien es consciente del mundo pero también sugiere uno que es mejor.
