Calipso Press and Goma Editora present How to Measure Time, a new artist book by Suwon Lee.
How to Measure Time approaches time as a sensitive and non-linear experience, intertwined with memory, life cycles, migration, and expanded temporal perception.
The publication consists of 68 risograph-printed pages sewn by hand. Its materiality and artisanal process reinforce the tactile dimension of the book, understanding publishing itself as a temporal experience. The cover was designed by Iván Martínez.
Composed through photography and digital montage, the work proposes a reading of time beyond chronological measurement. The series, made of images of clocks in which numerical digits are replaced with texts, unfolds as an existential journey through shifting moments of life and displacement, combining humor, silence, and poetic statements.
Through these images, the book traverses cycles ranging from celestial rhythms to human experiences such as conception, birth, death, transformation, and migration.
The digital compositions and layered images generate a fragmented temporality in which different moments coexist and contaminate one another, producing a non-linear experience of image and memory.

The book was recently presented at the ICP Photobook Fair at the International Center of Photography in New York and at the Printed Matter Los Angeles Art Book Fair (LAABF).
This new project continues Suwon Lee’s ongoing investigation into the perception of time, memory, and lived experience, consolidating a hybrid practice grounded in photographic experimentation and visual narrative.

Calipso Press y Goma Editora presentan How to Measure Time, un libro de artista de Suwon Lee
How to Measure Time aborda el tiempo como una experiencia sensible y no lineal, vinculada a la memoria, los ciclos vitales, y la experiencia expandida del tiempo.
El libro reúne 68 páginas impresas en risografía y cosidas a mano. Su materialidad y proceso artesanal refuerzan la dimensión táctil de la publicación, entendiendo el libro como un objeto que también produce temporalidad. El diseño de portada es de Iván Martínez.
Construida a partir de fotografía y montaje digital, la obra propone una lectura del tiempo más allá de la medición cronológica. La serie, compuesta por imágenes de relojes intervenidos con textos, despliega un recorrido existencial que atraviesa distintos momentos de la vida y del desplazamiento, combinando humor, silencios y enunciaciones poéticas.
A través de estas imágenes, el libro recorre ciclos que van desde los ritmos celestes hasta experiencias humanas como la concepción, el nacimiento, la muerte, la transformación y los desplazamientos migratorios.
Las composiciones y superposiciones digitales generan una temporalidad fragmentada donde distintos momentos coexisten y se contaminan entre sí, produciendo una experiencia no lineal de la imagen y la memoria.
Presentación y firma de ejemplares en Madrid 4 y 5 de junio
Suwon Lee y Camilo Otero (Calipso Press) presentarán How to Measure Time el jueves 4 de junio a las 19:30 h en la librería LAWRENCE (C. de San Mateo, 12, Madrid).
La artista firmará ejemplares del libro el viernes 5 de junio en Feria del Libro de Madrid, dentro de Indómitas (mesa 436), la sección dedicada a la edición independiente y a los proyectos editoriales experimentales y no convencionales.
El libro ha sido presentado recientemente en el ICP Photobook Fair del International Center of Photography, NY y en Printed Matter Los Angeles Art Book Fair LAABF.
Este nuevo proyecto continúa la investigación de Suwon Lee en torno a la percepción del tiempo, la memoria y la experiencia, consolidando una práctica híbrida basada en la investigación fotográfica y narrativa visual.
